The set design for the play is based on paper toy theatres and replicates the look of Marie Antoinette’s theatre at the Petit Trianon. Any furniture, such as Marie Antoinette’s harpsichord will be made of paper mache as the characters will only stand in all the scenes. As with the costumes, the colors should be muted, as the Tuilleries had not been the home of French royalty for decades prior to the imprisonment of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette. It should be readily apparent to the audience watching that the set is but an illusion of grandeur, and a poor illusion at that.
