My video touches on a brief conversation I had with my father this summer about the Black Lives Matter movement, and the ways the tenets of the movement, such as racial justice, relate to immigration and privilege. I share stories of my family, my father’s point of view, and the way that his view is informed by his immigration journey and stubborn points of views. In talking with him, and trying to understand his point of view, I believe my father is coming around to understanding how his experience is connected to broader concerns with justice. In putting this video together, I’ve come to understand that a complicated opinion is not something malicious, but rather an opportunity for growth and learning.
