Emerging Trends

Social Learning and MOOCs

The trend now is towards integrating solutions for informal just-in-time e-learning, and many LMSs are looking at how to incorporate more Web 2.0 tools like wikis, blogs, and robust learner profiles. Also worth noting is the movement towards massive open online courses (MOOCs)Coursera, EdXUdacityKhan Academy, and others are offering new models for presenting higher education courses and professional development solutions on a grand scale.

Corporate MOOCs

How do corporations scale and deliver integrated training to a global, mobile audience? Corporate MOOCs have evolved to answer these questions and more. Here are some links to help frame how corporations are leveraging MOOCs in their training environments.

⭐Shar’s Note: I’m rather partial to the edX platform because they offer an open source version, OpenedX that you can find a vendor to host for you if you’re not able to set it up yourself. Once you learn the basics of how to populate an edX course, there are extensive guides on how to further customize the environment/experience.

Racoon Gang is one of those vendors who offers Open edX experience. Read more at their 2019 blog article called “OPEN EDX: WHAT IS IT AND WHY 19 MILLION PEOPLE USE IT?”
