Introduction

Pressbooks is provided by the University of Washington Libraries to support the creation of Open Educational Resources. OER make education more affordable for students, and allow instructors to customize course materials to better suit their pedagogical goals. We believe that accessibility is crucial to making educational resources usable for all learners.

This short guide is intended to help UW instructors, students and staff create more accessible books using UW Libraries Pressbooks. It covers heading structure, links, color contrast, captions, alt-text and document types. This guide is a work in progress and suggestions are welcome.The principles outlined here are important to incorporate into any digital publishing project, not just in Pressbooks!
