This glossary comes from a quarter-long collaborative writing process in which students guided and created these definitions about time and temporality. Students were asked to identify the keywords or terms, with some suggestions from their instructor. Rather than be subject to traditional testing, students were then “quizzed” to write definitions for five different terms from the two major segments of the syllabus (dividing roughly into scientific concepts and sociological concepts). These open book, open note, open time quizzes served as a bank of answers from which the definitions could eventually be formed.
As part of co-editing the volume, students each claimed one term and created a single definition from their peers’ work. These have been uploaded here by their instructor, with little or no edits. As a result, this glossary represents the collective efforts of the students of Honors 211C to figure out difficult terminology related to time. In doing so, they have created a strong, useful set of keywords for future time thinkers.
