Coaching Companion is the private video sharing platform used by EarlyEdU Alliance for video-based assignments. There are several assignment types that you may encounter in your course. Some assignments require the Instructor to provide the video and other assignments require you, the participant, to provide the video.

Instructor Upload Assignments

Reflection

This assignment type allows instructor to upload a video and then have participants reflect on the action. This assignment promotes observation and commenting on the practices in the video. This assignment can be used to promote objective observation of child development and/or teaching practices.

Play by Play: Instructor Upload

This assignment type allows instructors to upload a video, and the participant can then tag the videos with the specified teaching interactions. This assignment allows participants to demonstrate their ability to accurately identify specific teaching practices and to engage in targeted conversation with instructor.

Community Reflection

This assignment type allows the instructor to create Community of Reflection and Practice (CORP) and upload videos for groups of participants to identify, discuss, and analyze authentic problems of practice. This assignment allows practice of feedback skills and development of professionalism and provides opportunity to observe, learn from observation, and practice providing feedback that is respectful and productive.

Participant Upload Assignments

Upload and Reflection

This assignment type allows participants to upload a video and provide a brief annotation/commentary. The instructor may also comment on this video allowing for a back and forth conversation around practices. Participants should edit video clips prior to upload, view their video on the platform, and then write their reflection.

Play by Play: Student Upload

This assignment type allows participants to upload a video, and the instructor to use Play by Play to tag interaction categories with additional comments. This assignment allows analysis of participant practices by instructor to highlight when (and how) participants are implementing practices.

Community Reflection

This assignment type allows the instructor to create Community of Reflection and Practice (CORP) groups of participants to upload their own videos, watch their CORP group videos and comment on CORP member videos. This assignment provides opportunity to observe, learn form, and provide feedback to peers. Participants should ensure that the feedback they provide is respectful and productive.
