Transradial Project Self-Critique Form

Criteria  Comments
1. Function

  • I identified the patient-centered functional needs and considered methods to assess the prosthesis function/usefulness.

Functional goal(s):

Method to evaluate goal(s):

2. Professionalism

  • I have been prepared for class and provided gentle treatment of the patient.
  • My words, actions, appearance, and body language have been professional.

3. Safety and Universal Precautions

  • I used universal precautions and have been aware and taken action to reduce risk of injury to myself and others

4. Bench test

  • I performed the bench test and calculated the control system efficiency.
    • Control system efficiency >80%   F TD/Harness
  • I checked the operation of the housing and cable while off the patient.

5. Socket Fit
5a. CHECK Condition of residual limb before casting or fitting socket!

  • Skin condition
  • Measurements (circumferences, elbow ROM)
  • Anatomical landmarks
5b. TISSUE FIT

  • I recognize how tissue fits within the socket.

5c.

TRIMLINES AND ROM

  • I measured the ROM with and without the socket.
  • I know the proper location of the trimlines.
  • I can explain the reasoning for the location of the trimlines.
Elbow flexion ROM =

Elbow extension ROM =

Transverse rotation ROM =

Trimline location

5d. STABILITY/LOAD TESTS

  • I performed all the stability and load tests.
  • I can describe the locations of anticipated pressures.

Axial load <1” (2.5cm)

5e. OVERALL SOCKET FIT

·       I have identified areas of high pressure.

Distributed pressures

·       I used the socket comfort scale to assess socket comfort from the patient’s perspective. Socket Comfort Score =

6. Joint axis location

  • I can locate the joint axis.
  • The hinges fall through joint center through ROM
Joint axis:
7. Length of the prosthesis

  • Length reference is marked on socket.
Length:
8. Alignment

  • Forearm section aligned in the proper pre-flexion angle and palmer and radial cant.
Appropriate alignment:

9. Harness critique

  • Prosthesis suspends through the anterior strap.
  • Harness and cuff adjusted to achieve as much comfort as possible.
  • All harness standards have been met.
  • Double check static (standing) and dynamic (walking) alignments.
Suspension:

Comfort (and cuff):

Operation:

10. Technical Operation of TD

  • I checked and measured the patient’s ability to open and close the TD.

11. Technical quality

  • I fabricated the prosthesis with these qualities: Plastic pulled with good suction, no defects in plastic, smooth and even edges/trimlines, rivets smooth with no sharp edges, straps, and materials clean, pads placed securely

12. Comprehension

  • I understand the concepts and can explain the fit of function as well as how to solve problems easily and clearly.
  • I can explain the fit and operation of the prosthesis.
