10 Evaluation of Socket Fit

1. Before donning the socket

Condition of the residual limb

  • If relevant, changes in skin, shape, muscle tone, soft tissue, bony/sensitive areas since the last visit.
  • Limb circumferences (use table format)
  • Skin condition

2. Don socket, then check

Notice the locations of the reaction forces

Socket fit

  • Trimlines
  • Elbow joint ROM (with and without socket)
  • Stability and load testing (stability against frontal, sagittal, transverse plane movements) forces and counter forces and relief over bony areas
  • # sock ply or padding adding (current and optimum)
  • Socket Comfort Scale = ?/10. (Include pts perspectives here even though this is S.)

3. Check length and alignment

Revisit functional goals/purpose of prosthesis
