5 Evaluation
E-LEARNING GOALS
Define learning objectives
Identify parts of the ABCD and SMART model objectives
Write simple learning objectives using the ABCD and SMART model
KIRKPATRICK LEVELS
Level 1: For this course, I will only be using a summative method with my feedback survey that includes open-ended question for learners to discuss their experience in the course.
Level 2: Were learners after taking the course able to correctly create an ABCD or SMART model learning objective that they can apply to virtual or traditional course building or lesson planning?
Level 3: The behaviors of learners can be observed in virtual or traditional learning environments. Observation questions: Are students able to follow along with verbal or written learning objectives? After the end of class did students complete the learning objectives as given by the instructor? Is the instructor able to write proper learning objectives that learners can understand?
The learner’s behavior could be observed in the classroom. Questions to help guide the observation could be: How has the training impacted the teacher’s behavior in the classroom? Do they have more confidence in the strategies they are using? Are they using strategies in more effective ways? Has their classroom management improved?
Level 4: Learner’s ability to create learning objectives utilizing the ABCD or SMART model with students being able to follow along.
Possible question: Were you able to write a learning objective that your classes were able to follow along with properly to fulfill the learning outcome?
ASSESSMENT TECHNIQUES AND TOOLS
Assessment Techniques
- The course is asynchronous with no formal grades it includes fill-in-the-blank, matching, multiple-choice, and multiselection and ends with an optional summative assessment with a rubric that can be submitted in Google Form.
- Formative Assessment: fill-in-the-blank, matching, multiple-choice, and multiselection
- Summative Assessment: Have learners submit optional learning objectives from the writing prompt following the rubric which they will submit for feedback.
- Validity: Learners’ formative assessments will accurately test knowledge of the ABCD and the SMART model for learning objectives because it will provide them with an understanding of the scope of how to apply the models and use them to create learning objectives. In addition, the summative assessment that the learners decide to submit will reinforce the ability to understand how to apply the two models to learning objectives.
- Reliability: Having learners submit learning objective writing prompts for feedback is one way to provide consistency based on the rubric provided.
- Declarative knowledge: Learner’s knowledge around principles and facts about each model are included in modules along with quizzing so that they can study and transfer the knowledge to build learning objectives.
- Procedural knowledge: The optional essay and the reviews included at the start of modules, the multiple YouTube videos with focus topics, and helpful links if learners want more to study help for practice and repetition.
- Qualitative data will be gathered through testing with no formal grading included
- Quantitative data will be gathered on the essay through the rubric score
- Learners are self-paced and given correct and incorrect feedback for each quiz in modules and sections. When learners submit writing prompts they will be given feedback from the instructor based on the rubric.
Assessment Tools
Electronic assessment tools: Articulate Rise course with fill-in-the-blank, multiple choice, matching, multiselection, and an essay with a rubric
Examples:
- Multiple choice: Which part of this objective would be the Condition:
- “Given a standard statement, the 3rd-grade students will be able to identify the noun and verb correctly.
- Matching: Given a pie graph, Ms. Veltre’s sixth-grade math class will present the statistical information shown on the graph with at least 80% accuracy.
- Multiselection: What are some of the problems learning objectives solve?
- Essay: Learners will use example topics to write learning objectives using the ABCD and the SMART model
- Reflection sheet: No reflection if it was a full LMS it would have a feedback form similar to the feedback form I included at the end of this course.
- The assessments can be found in my Articulate Rise course Objective to Get You on the Road
