What is the place of sports at a university?
In the Place of Sports in the University Series, University of Washington student authors seek answers to this question. This series features student stories about the purpose of going to college and the role of sports in their college going experiences. From their own vantage point, student contributors ask questions, engage in conversations, explore the UW archives, curate media, and reflect on their own sports activities. Now in its 4th edition, students are building a log that is part almanac, part legacy.
This edition brings a new wave of stories exploring the question of sports in going to college. In fall 2024, some traditions and rituals remain the same, others change just as quickly as the new academic year begins. AI is now a prominent research and writing tool, yet many questions over its use remain.
In the 4th edition, students explore the history of sports at the UW campus, use AI to generate resources and images, and integrate H5P tools. Their findings from history, experimentation with AI, and reader engagement with timelines and images create compelling stories and integrated records of sports influences on and off campus.
Using their knowledge, conversations, and innovative media tools, student contributors author stories about places and people across campus. As such, this series documents the nuance of places and activities that shape today and define ‘going to UW’ by capturing the essence of students who have come before.
