What is the place of sports at a university?
In Spring there is much to celebrate on a college campus. Spring brings the end of the academic year and for some graduation is in sight. In Spring 2023, there is much to celebrate for students graduating – the cohort who started their college journey just before the COVID-19 pandemic. They have persisted through the abrupt turn to online learning, then returned even when many in higher ed weren’t sure if they would. Amidst the excitement when they returned, there was also uncertainty over what they would find and what they left behind.
The place of sport and nearly every other aspect of campus life were disrupted into, thru, and out of the pandemic for all students. The pandemic also upended the academic experience – forcing students to adjust to remote learning and new technologies, then back to on campus learning.
Just as the students who started before COVID-19 and those who spent their first year online made the adjustments back to campus, ChatGPT is upending learning once again.
In class we talked about ChatGPT, we experimented, and we asked some experts. Students shared their reflections and concerns about how and when to use AI in course assignments – including this one. Students also shared how important it is to them that their own creativity and ideas are in each story.
In this 2023 edition, students share stories of sport, of going to college, and how technologies help them showcase The Place of Sports In the University.
