Object Design

“Hive Dancing at the Blue Dahlia Cafe” is the Surface Design Assn challenge piece that inspired the creation of “Mielificent”.
First finished sketch of Mielificent. I still am considering using the chunky shoes instead of the slippers.
Final sketch of the full costume. This is the first thing I drew on my nearly new iPad with my brand new iPencil.
Final sketches of both “crown” designs. Upper left: the bee-hive hairdo was one of the first ideas. I had trouble figuring out the engineering. I would still like to try making it. Lower right: the hollow log was Mark’s misunderstanding. But I knew instantly how to make it.

Construction

Costume Parts

giant costume bee stinger
Stinger mechanism engaged (showing utility belt on left)
petal-shaped gold velvet costume part with draped pearl embellishmen and tassel fringe.
The pollen basket is made to hang off the side of the utility belt that holds the stinger gear. It has never been tested.

Poster Design

First poster design. This layout reflects the original idea to follow the “path” of my experience creating Mielificent.
Final poster design. This layout reflects the process of back-and-forth between the design and research “phases” of the process.
