Abigail Minase (She/Her)
Akira Junyaprasert (They/Them)– Akira speaks both English and Thai. They intend to major in Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies (GWSS) and enjoy art, camping, soaking up the sun and spending time with their cat. A fun fact about them is they love mango sticky rice and their cat. Akira chose to take this course because they love feminism and have a passion for learning.
Alli Nemec (She/Her)– Alli speaks English and is from Puyallup, WA. She intends to major in Mathematical Thinking and Visualization and enjoys painting, photography, and discovering new music. A fun fact about her is her first ever Doordash order was doughnuts to a hotel she stayed at in Texas. Alli chose to enroll in this course because she wanted to better understand feminism and the ways we see it in today’s world with global wide movements.
Amar (He/Him)– Amar is from Seattle, WA. He speaks both Cham and English. A fun fact about him is his high school ultimate frisbee team won the national championship. He is majoring in Psychology and enjoys curating outfits, listening to podcasts, and volunteering. Amar chose this class because he enjoys learning about feminist studies and because his friends were also enrolled this class.
Amina Abdel-Aziz (She/Her)– Amina is from Covington, WA. She speaks both Arabic and English. A fun fact about her is she cannot cook. She is majoring in Psychology, and enjoys drawing, painting and art. Amina chose this class because she was interested in the group project aspect of the class.
Aminata Conteh (She/ Her)– Aminata is from Lynnwood, WA. She speaks both Wolof and English. A fun fact about her is she grew up in Rhode Island. She is intending to major in Global Studies and enjoys crocheting. Aminata chose this class because of her intended major and is hoping to minor in GWSS in the near future.
Angelina- (She/Her)– Angelina is from Kirkland, WA. She speaks both Russian and English. A fun fact about her is that she is a polyglot. She is majoring in Law, Policies and Economics and enjoys ballroom dance. Angelina chose this class because she wants to minor in GWSS.
Araceli Urrutia (She/Her)– Araceli is from Everett, WA, and speaks both Spanish and English. Araceli’s major is American and Ethnic Studies and minors in Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies (GWSS). She enjoys trying new places to eat, going to the movie theater, and spending time with her family. A fun fact about Araceli is she has a pug named ‘Pug.’ She chose to take this course because she loves learning about strong and resilient women who look like her! She wanted to end the year with Dr. Shayne since she has been her professor since the fall quarter, “It only feels right to end the year off in her class!” – Araceli Urrutia.
Ben Hunter (He/Him)– Ben speaks English and is intending to become an Electrical Engineer upon his graduation. He enjoys playing video games and basketball. A fun fact about Ben is he gets super absorbed in things that he finds interesting and lazy about things he is uninterested in. He decided to take this course because he wanted to learn more about the achievements of women and also because he needed a diversity credit.
Bri Fero, AKA “Breezy” (She/Her)– Bri is from Gilbert, Arizona and moved to Washington in 2020 by herself, looking to get away from the intense heat. She speaks both English and American Sign Language. She admits she is not quite fluent anymore, but still has got it! She hopes to one day work with the United Nations or in diplomacy work, carrying a strong passion for international development and gender equality. Bri loves a good cocktail and says she makes a mean Prickly Pear margarita! Dr. Shayne is Bri’s favorite professor and motivator, which is the reason she chose to peer facilitate for the class.
Cassandra Merlo-Huerta (She/Her)– Cassandra speaks English and Spanish and is from Seattle, WA. She intends to major in Business and enjoys going to soccer games, baking, and doing her own nails. A fun fact about her is she is Mexican American and enjoys spending time with her family and being outdoors. Cassandra chose to take this course because she has taken a few classes with Dr. Shayne in the past and has enjoyed each one.
Karma (She/Her)– Karma speaks English, Arabic and French and is from Issaquah, WA. She intends to major in Psychology and enjoys painting, shopping, listening to music, and spending time with her cat. A fun fact about her is she was born in Cairo, Egypt. Karma chose to enroll in this course because she was elated to hear how there is a class designed to teach about some of the most neglected demographics in US public schools. She also feels personal ties to the global south, as her entire family aside from her parents still reside there.
Estrella Wasankari (She/Her)– Estrella is from Port Angeles, WA. She speaks both Spanish and English. A fun fact about her is she knows how to snowboard. She is majoring in Biology and enjoys creating art. Estrella chose this class because she wants to minor in GWSS.
Gowiria Yousif (She/Her)– Gowiria is from Cairo, Egypt and speaks both Arabic and English. Her major is Law, Economics, and Public Policy (LEPP). She enjoys playing soccer, reading, and journaling. A fun fact about Gowiria is she used to care for four pet chickens. She decided to take this class because she loves taking classes with Dr. Shayne.
Elias Borozan (He/Him)– Elias is from Seattle, WA. He speaks German, Montenegrin and English. A fun fact about him is he did child acting for much of his life and has been in a movie and several other commercials. He is majoring in Global Studies and enjoys NFL, nature, gaming, and his two cats. Elias chose this class because he wanted to better understand the struggles of women who are important in his life, ie. mom, grandmas, sisters, girlfriend.
Imaan Mohiuddin (She/Her)– Imaan is from Newport Beach, CA. She speaks French, Arabic, Urdu, and English. A fun fact about her is she has a cat named ‘Governor.’ She is majoring in Computer Science and enjoys skiing, painting, hiking, and surfing. Imaan chose this class because she admires the Dr. Shayne and is considering a GWSS minor.
Jordan Robertson-Modell (He/Him)– Jordan is from Shoreline, WA, and speaks English. Although Jordan still has not decided on his major, he is currently interested in Psychology. A hobby Jordan has is walking and a fun fact about him includes how he has visited 47 US states as of May 2024. Jordan chose to enroll in this course because it sounded interesting to him.
Kaylin Phan (She/Her)– Kaylin is from Seattle, WA, and speaks both English and Vietnamese. Kaylin is a pre-major and is still contemplating which major she will pursue. Some of her hobbies include watching movies, playing video games and cooking. A fun fact about Kaylin is she enjoys eating strawberry ice cream. Although Kaylin decided to take this class because it is a prerequisite credit, she also wanted to learn something new and different.
Kent Bui (He/Him)– Kent is from Hô Chí Minh city. He speaks both Vietnamese and English. A fun fact about him is he builds PCs and made his own keyboard. He is majoring in Psychology and enjoys gaming, crafts, and music. Kent chose this class because he found it interesting and he was curious about the content.
Lily Wallin (She/Her)– Lily is from Bellevue, WA, and speaks both English and French (conversationally). Lily’s majors are Global Studies (GST) and Law, Economics, and Public Policy (LEPP), and intends to minor in Human Rights. Lily enjoys hanging out with her two cats. A fun fact about her is that she has a severe debilitating arachnophobia and drinks about seven bubbly waters a day. She chose to take this course because Dr. Shayne is amazing and learning about rad womxn at an international level is inspiring to her and beyond rad!
Ma Isabel Hernandez Olivares (She/Her)– Ma Isabel is from Leon Guanajuato, Mexico. She speaks both Spanish and English is majoring in Psychology. She enjoys walking, watching movies, and spending quality time with her family by playing board games. A fun fact about Ma Isabel is she adores her animal familia. She is mama to a husky named ‘Winter,’ two male cats named ‘Kiara’ and ‘Foxy’ and a young pig named ‘Ms. Piggy.’ Ma Isabel decided to take this course because she loves Dr. Shayne’s courses and enjoys learning about all things feminism.
Maya (She/Her)– Maya is from Oklahoma. She speaks both English and Tigrinya. She is majoring in Environmental Studies and enjoys reading, writing and planting. A fun fact about her is she loves laying in her hammock. Maya chose to take this class because she adores Dr. Shayne’s classes.

Muntaha Sohail (She/Her)– Muntaha is from Bothell, WA and speaks English, Urdu, and Hindi. Muntaha’s major is Biology and in her free time likes to travel, scrapbook and doodle. A fun fact about Muntaha is she loves eating food! She decided to take this course because it covers a diversity credit.
Nika Stanley (She/Her)- Nika is from Redmond, WA, and speaks both English and Japanese. Nika’s major is Interdisciplinary Arts and enjoys gaming, reading, journaling and drawing. A fun fact about her is she plays the cello in a community orchestra. Nika chose to take this course because she was curious about the emphasis on the Global South and what activism looked like there.
Nmesoma Ezebube (She/ Her)– Nmesoma is from Everett, WA. She speaks Igbo and English. She is majoring in Global Studies and enjoys reading.
Nya (They/Them)– Nya speaks English and is from Mountlake Terrace, WA. They intend to major in Media and Communications and enjoy collaging, reading and writing. A fun fact about them is their favorite movie is “Asteroid City.” Nya decided to take this course because they were interested in the class content and had previously heard great reviews about the class.
Salma Ahmed (She/Her)– Salma is from Somaliland. She speaks both Somali and English. A fun fact about her is she loves painting and lived in Somalia for three years. She is majoring in Applied Computing and enjoys hiking, reading and going to the gym. Salma chose this class because she wants to learn more about women’s studies.
Sarah Adera (She/Her)– Sarah is from Ethiopia. She speaks Amharic, Turkish and English. A fun fact about her is that crime podcasts help her get a good night’s sleep. She is majoring in Pre-Med and Health studies with a Human Rights minor. She enjoys reading and painting. She chose this class because she wanted to learn more about women and feminism.
Somya Prasad (She/Her)– Somya has been running competitively in the PNW for almost seven years. Another fun fact about Somya is that she enjoys and looks up to Rosalie Fish’s work. Somya believes that as a woman of color, she also shares an admiration for the Indigenous individuals of the North West and the strength of Indigenous women, just like Rosalie Fish.
Tracy (She/Her)– Tracy is from Bothell, WA, and speaks English. Tracy’s major is Society Ethics and Human Behavior and minors in Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies (GWSS). She enjoys eating great food and a fun fact about her is that she absolutely despises bananas. Tracy decided to take this course because she liked the way Dr. Shayne taught, which influenced her to take more of Dr. Shayne’s courses.
Trang Nguyen (She/Her)- Trang both speaks Vietnamese and English and is from Lynnwood, WA. Trang is currently pursuing a major in Business Administration with a focus on Finance. Her hobbies include drawing and reading. A fun fact about Trang is she works at a boba shop. She chose to take this class in order to earn necessary credits.
Vanessa T. Huynh (He/She *In that order*)- Vanessa is from Lynnwood, WA, and speaks both English and Vietnamese. Vanessa’s major is Chemistry and enjoys creative writing, listening to music, and drawing. A fun fact about Vanessa is that he loves emoticons (๑˃̵ᴗ˂̵)♡! He decided to take this course because he had previously taken another course with Dr. Shayne and enjoyed the way she teaches.
Vanessa Sanders (She/Her)– Vanessa is from California, WA and speaks English. She intends to major in Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies (GWSS). A fun fact about her is she is a singer and writer. Her name means ‘butterfly’ and she loves to collect anything with butterflies in it. Vanessa decided to take this course because Dr. Shayne recommended it.
Ximena Arce Salas (She/Her)– Ximena is from Queretaro, Mexico, and speaks both English and Spanish. Her major is Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies (GWSS), and she enjoys watching science fiction movies. A fun fact about Ximena is her favorite movie is “Men in Black.” She decided to take this course because she wanted to learn more about the Global South.
Yvette Peña (She/Her)– Yvette is from Marysville, WA. She speaks Spanish, American Sign Language and English. A fun fact about her is she was born with a cleft palate. She is majoring in Health Studies and Psychology and enjoys reading, writing and art. Yvette chose this class because she loves Dr.Shayne’s teaching style and enjoys knowing about the history no one else seems to speak about.
