4 Start Small, Start Now
Congratulations! If you are reading this guide, you are already crushing it on step #1! You are starting the process of exploration and learning. That’s all you need to get going.
No career is made overnight, it grows step by step and slowly over time. So start small, but start now. “Small” will be a relative term, but it’s a great philosophy when trying to develop in a field like people analytics. People analytics is multi-disciplinary so there are many different branches of skills, knowledge, and techniques to learn – and within each of them, it is possible to go deep and learn a lot.
The good news is that you don’t have to worry about all the possible things you could learn, you can pick your path, you can start with the ideas or topics that are easiest, that are most aligned with your current skills, or that intrigue you the most. And, the beauty of learning something new is that you don’t have to know anything to start learning!
People analytics is unique as a potential career because it is still a “new” field. So, regardless of how new you are to it, you aren’t behind! The demand for people analytics skills exceeds the supply by so much that each small step you take toward growing your understanding will accelerate your career exponentially.
