6 Leverage Your Strengths

If I asked you to list three things you need to learn or develop for your career, what kind of things come to mind? If you’re like most people, your list probably includes only items you feel you are “bad” at.

No! Don’t do that! I mean, sure, you can do that. But why would you want to start on the negative? I want to ask you to consider an alternative. Consider taking the same amount of effort and dedication you would use to “fix” a problem and instead use it to find ways to apply the skills you are already good at in new ways. In this book, I will encourage you to build new skills, but not before you leverage what you already have. As discussed when talking about imposter syndrome, there’s a very good chance you already have more skills than you give yourself credit for, and you probably have more than enough to start small and start now. So, before you make a “development plan,” consider making a plan to apply your strengths to their fullest.
