Anatomy and Histology of Bones and Joints

Learning Objectives

1.  Be able to identify the bones and the features of bones that are listed in this chapter in purple boldface.

2.  The skeletal tissues (bone and cartilage) are two different types of connective tissue.  Be able to identify the cell types and the structural features of bone and cartilage.

3.  Know that the long bones develop by endochondral ossification.  Be able to identify the epiphyseal growth plate and know that the cells in the epiphyseal growth plate are chondrocytes.

4.  Be able to describe the basic structure of a synovial joint.  Be able to identify the specific structures found in the knee joint.
