A Blazing Calamity: Wildfires in the PNWF

This section addresses wildfires in the Pacific Northwest forests and their impacts. Wildfires are an important topic of discussion in forestry due to their environmental, health and socio-economic impacts. They are a major issue that has been escalating with time and is a calamity humans and forests have learned to coexist with. With it’s burnt affect on natural land and it’s contribution of CO2 emissions, wildfires are highly relevant to the climate justice movement in the Pacific Northwest. The interconnectivity of wildfires and climate change will be explored in many ways through this section’s chapters: how climate change exacerbates the risk of wildfires, how wildfires have been through history alongside their management practices. In addition, there will be chapters covering the impacts of wildfires on air quality, animals, and water supplies. With dissecting the situation of wildfires in the northwest region we hope our share of information contributes valuably to the climate conversation.
