Perfectionism Within First Generation Students

You are the monster. You along with every other first generation student that has perfectionism has a monster within themselves. That monster will always escape, no matter what students will continue to strive for perfectionism. This is due to the fact many students will use their intellect in a way to measure success, if you aren’t good you are considered a failure. A solution to this problem is making students aware that it is okay to reach out for help when needed. Although many students will not use said resources it’s important to have them available. When these students have such high standards for themselves they feel as if their families success rests on their shoulders, they have to be the one to make their families proud by achieving that “American Dream”.
