POWER/BATTERY
- Start by turning on the battery pack. To access the battery, open the cabinet on the far right.
- Press the center of the silver button to release and then push firmly around the button to extend the handle.
- Pull the handle to open the cabinet. Once open, unstrap and pull out the battery to see the control panel.

- To turn the power in the van on/off, push the small 12V button at the top-center of the fuse block. Return and secure battery pack.

LIGHTS
- Once the battery power is turned on, the lights are controlled by several switches on the wall above the counter.
- The lights can be turned on and off and there is a dimmer switch near the supplies cabinet wall.

FAN
- The fan is located mid-ceiling above the exam table.
- Pull down and turn the knob to open the roof vent. Use controls on the unit to turn on and off or change the direction of air circulation.
HEAT
- The heat can be adjusted by using the controls near the light switches.
- Heat comes out of the vent below the passenger seat.
- Be sure the space is clear of supplies/objects, and that no one is sitting in the seat. Run heater for no more than 20 minutes at a time. Exhaust from heater comes out vent on passenger-side of the van, so arrange your outreach ensuring patients are far enough away not to be bothered if it is in use.
WATER
- To operate the sink, turn on the water pump switch located near light and heat controls.
- If you need hot water, the on-demand water heater is located in the far left cabinet, below the sink. To turn it on, move the yellow propane control lever 45 degrees clockwise (from 9 to 12 o’clock; pictured below). With propane now flowing, turn the first knob to the ‘on’ position (pictured below). Running water should be hot within 30 seconds.
- When your event is over, be sure to return the on-demand water heater and propane tanks to ‘off’ positions.
- There are two (labeled) 5-gallon water jugs in the cabinet below the sink. The jug with a white cap contains clean water, and the jug with the gray cap contains wastewater. To empty the dirty water jug, unscrew the jug and remove the jug. Dispose to the dirty water in a safe place (either bathroom sink or large grass patch). Return the empty dirty water jug to the van. Remove the empty clean water jug from the van. To refill, go to the laundry room located in SCC 123.

ORDERING & SUPPLIES
To order Supplemental Supplies, there is a QR code survey inside the Storage closet to request specific supplies at least four weeks in advance of outreach. To obtain access to the storage closet please contact Jordi Despaigne (jdespa@uw.edu) or Ashley McPeek (mcpeekas@uw.edu). Any questions about van supplies should be directed to Jordi Despaigne (jdespa@uw.edu).
EXAM TABLE
- To bring the exam table upright, pull up the end with the headrest from flat to the desired position.
- To lie flat, pull up again lightly past full extension to release tension and then push down into place.

PRIVACY CURTAIN
- To use the privacy curtain, untie the closure and pull across the bar.
- Secure into place using magnets along the wall of the van. Return to open position after use, making sure the curtain does not extend into the van’s exterior doorway.
- If you need an additional curtain for the back of the van, there is a curtain, curtain rod, and hooks. Please make sure to give yourself enough time to set up this curtain before the event.
AWNING
- To use the awning, use the rod clipped onto the wall near the jump chair.
- Outside the van, hook the rod into the loop on the left corner of the awning unit. Rotate the rod clockwise/counterclockwise to release the awning halfway.
- Once within reach, release the legs by pulling straight up until you hear a ‘click’ in the joint, then rotate 90 degrees to extend. Once legs are out, open the awning to its full extent. Once open, legs can stand on the ground or be secured on posts along with the van.
- If you don’t feel comfortable using the awning, there are canopies available inside the van/storage room for your use.
SAFE
- The safe can be utilized for storage of personal or supply items during outreach and is located on the front end of the exam table.
- To open, input the code and twist the bottom knob to the unlocked position. To close, twist in the reverse and turn numbers away from the code.
SWIVEL CHAIR
- To access an additional swivel chair for patient examination or seating, remove twist knobs on left and on top of the blue panel behind the passenger seat.
- Rotate and position the seat using the bar on the bottom front-center of the passenger seat. The panel can be stored along the side of the van during outreach and should be returned to place before departure.

DRIVER CONTROLS
- The main controls for operating the vehicle are near the steering wheel and center console.
- Lights are turned on and off by the control knob to the left of the steering wheel.
- Windshield wipers are controlled by rotating the joystick attached to the left side of the steering wheel.
- Hazard lights can be turned on and off with the mid-center button at the bottom of the center console.
- The parking brake is located on the right-hand side of the driver’s chair and should be on when fully parked.
