Introduction

Gap identified: Restaurant servers’ lack of wine knowledge inhibits their ability to increase sales, provide professional wine service, and care for customers’ questions and food pairings correctly and efficiently.

Project description: This course provides knowledge to learners about the importance of wine knowledge and service, wine terminology, an overview of the basics of red and white wine knowledge (including their taste profiles and food pairings), how to open a wine bottle, and proper wine etiquette.

Personal growth: As someone who has worked as a waitress and manager at fine dining establishments for the past seven years, I have grown to appreciate the art of wine and how it is to be served and the importance from a business standpoint.  Servers educated about wine are more efficient when navigating their tables and can make more money for themselves as well as the establishment they work for. This project allowed me to put the knowledge I have about wine and organize it into lessons to equip restaurant servers with the basic knowledge they need.

This brief portfolio represents an e-learning project that was created as part of the University of Washington E-learning Instructional Design certificate. And is the sole design of Lauren Turner.
