There are various tools one might use to put a hole in something. The appropriate tool for the job depends on the material hardness. This section includes instruction on drill bits and punches as well as proper use of a hand drill and drill press to create holes.

Drilling and Tapping
- PP: Wear safety glasses.
- Hand drill
- Select the right size drill bit
- Stabilize the object being drilling
- Ensure that nothing is below the object being drilled
- Position the drill so it is 90 degrees to the surface
- Drill press
- Name parts: table, chuck, feed lever, depth stop, variable speed control
- Adjust speed of drill press, only when wheel is rotating.
- Secure bit by tightening each hole on the chuck. Removes chuck key before turning on drill press.
- Describe how to adjust table height.
- Tapping
- Select the appropriate size drill bits for tap and for through hole.
