Purpose and Organization of this Book

This book is designed to teach and guide students on the essential techniques and practices required in the P&O lab to improve the quality and efficiency of your work. Its purposes include:

  1. Best Practices: Offers guidelines for using tools and equipment, ensuring accuracy, reliability, and safety. Encourages the correct and efficient use of materials, tools, and resources, improving lab performance and reducing waste.
    • Basic terminology: It includes photos and descriptions of common tools and equipment used int he P&O lab.
    • Skill Development: It provides step-by-step instructions for developing essential P&O lab skills.
    • Safety Awareness: Emphasizes proper safety procedures and standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to the handling of chemicals, equipment, and hand tools to minimize risks during lab activities.
    • Problem-Solving: Provides troubleshooting tips for common issues encountered in lab work.
  2. Theoretical Background: Connects the practical skills to underlying mechanical principles, ensuring that learners understand the theory behind fabrication techniques.
  3. Training and Reference: Acts as both a learning resource for students in P&O skills and a reference guide in future classes.

 

Organization

  • Each section begins with a performance checklist to be used as a guide to ensure that specific tasks, behaviors, or processes are completed according to established standards or criteria. To improve your skills, try to perform tasks in a consistent manner, reducing variability in performance, and consider the key steps or criteria to improve your quality and efficiency.
