44 Lamination SOP

 

#1 Process Layered fabric lamination over plaster molds under vacuum.
#2 Chemicals Exo-Extreme Epoxyl Acrylic Resin and Chemical Hardner by PacelineThis chemical is considered hazardous by OSHA. Irritating to respiratory system and skin. May causesensitization by skin contact. High concentrations of vapor or inhalation for an extended period may beharmful to the nervous system. Pulmonary edema is possible.
#3 PPE
  • Wear clothing with full length sleeves and pants.
  • Close toe shoes should be worn in all lab areas.
  • Wear eye protection.
  • Wear protective, disposable, gloves for use while mixing and handling the resin and promoter.
  • Wear respirators which are fit tested and updated by UW EH&S each year as part of the curriculum, stored in plastic bags, and fit with the appropriate filters
#4 Environmental / Ventilation controls
  • Position chemicals within 15 cm or 6″ of the fume hood and turn on the ventilation system (switch is
  • located by the main lab door).
  • Close lab windows when using the ventilation system.
#5 Required Trainingand Approval
  • Refer to the manufacturer’s instructions for use.
  • Students: Do not use until training is provided in the prosthetic and orthotic clinical courses.
#6 InspectionRequirements before Use
  • Check the area to be sure people are alert and wearing PPE.
  • Check the workspace to be clear of debris.
#7 Safe operatingprocedures orprecautions
  • Store in a fire cabinet, in the room, in original packaging, with the lid tightly secured, when not in use.
  • Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Avoid breathing dust/fume/gas/mist/vapors/spray. Do not swallow.
  • Handle open containers with care. When using, do not eat, drink or smoke. Use only in a well-ventilated area
#8 Chemicals/ spillprocedures/wastedisposal
  • Spills should be cleaned with paper towels disposed of in trash containers and left under the fume hood system until fumes are no longer being released.
  • For inhalation exposure: Move victim to fresh air, put at rest and loosen restrictive clothing. If breathing becomes irregular or ceases, apply mouth to mouth resuscitation or artificial respiration immediately. Seek medical attention.
  • For skin exposure: Wash immediately with soap and plenty of water. Seek medical attention if irritation persists. Use shower if necessary.
  • For eye exposure: Immediately flush eyes with plenty of flowing water at eye wash for 15 minutes while holding eyelids open. Consult an ophthalmologist.
  • For swallowing: Do not induce vomiting. Immediately get medical attention.

Waste disposal

  • If cured, may be disposed of in standard trash containers.
  • If uncured and disposal is needed, label with the UW Hazardous Waste Label and contact EH&S at (206) 616-5835 for collection.
