37 Punches
A punch is a tool used to indent or create a hole through a hard surface. They are classified based on the design of their tips.
A pin punch is used to drive out a rivet or other object. To remove a rivet, select a pin punch that almost fills the hole. If the punch is too small, then end of the rivet may spread out. If it is too big, it won’t push the rivet out.
A center punch is used to mark the center of a point. It is usually used to mark the center of a hole when drilling holes. A drill has the tendency to “wander” if it does not start in a recess. A center punch forms a large enough dimple to “guide” the tip of the drill.
An automatic center punch is spring loaded and used without a hammer. Once it is pressed against the material (e.g., metal) the spring compresses and then releases quickly to indent the material.
Hollow hole punches have a sharp end use for creating holes in materials such as leather or foam.
To prolong the sharpness of the punch always use hole punches on the end of a hardwood block such that when the punch goes through the material it enters the end grain of the timber. |

A leather punch is used to perforate clean holes in leather, plastic, rubber, canvas, fabrics, and other soft materials. |
