General Technique Tips

1. 

   Select a rivet or screw

2. Select the correct size drill bit
   • Use the drill bit gauge
3. Install the bit securely.
4. Put the drill in contact with the work and align squarely before stating up the drill motor.
   • The drill bit should be 90′ to the drilling surface
5. Locate your body in a position that will give you maximum control of the drilling operation.
6. Exert steady, even pressure during drilling and release pressure at breakthrough.
7. Remove all burrs.

If drilling metal, use the drill press

1. Use a cutting fluid to improve your drilling operations.
2. For steels that rapidly work harden (titanium, for example), avoid center punching before drilling, because the material will become too hard to drill.
