5 Hammers

You’ll use various types of hammers, such as those in the table below.

Ball-peen hammer has a half ball and flat striking surfaces. When hitting another tool, such as a chisel or a pipe, it is usual practice to use the flat side of the hammer. The peen of the ball-peen hammer is used for shaping metal or rounding off and spreading the end of rivets.
Plastic mallet has hard plastic striking surfaces. This hammer is typically used when breaking out sockets. Only hit the plastic socket at a flat area with solid plaster on the other side of the plastic. When striking the material, the face of the hammer should be parallel to the surface bing hit.
Rubber mallet is used for breaking plaster out of sockets.
Shoe hammer is used for making shoes.
