5 Hammers
You’ll use various types of hammers, such as those in the table below.
Ball-peen hammer has a half ball and flat striking surfaces. When hitting another tool, such as a chisel or a pipe, it is usual practice to use the flat side of the hammer. The peen of the ball-peen hammer is used for shaping metal or rounding off and spreading the end of rivets. | |
Plastic mallet has hard plastic striking surfaces. This hammer is typically used when breaking out sockets. Only hit the plastic socket at a flat area with solid plaster on the other side of the plastic. When striking the material, the face of the hammer should be parallel to the surface bing hit. | |
Rubber mallet is used for breaking plaster out of sockets. | |
Shoe hammer is used for making shoes. |
