Reflections

Through my experience in Knowledge Kapamilya, I have learned so much about Filipino American history and culture. I have made much progress in my goal of developing my knowledge of ancestry and identity through discussions and research of cultural belongings. However, I know there is still so much more to learn. I hope to one day travel to the Philippines to experience the cultural richness of my homeland and better understand how it compares to my experiences in the US. I plan to continue to search for and engage with opportunities to deepen my understanding of Filipino heritage. I am grateful to have been part of the group of people that made up Knowledge Kapamilya these past two quarters and the brilliant minds that made this e-book possible!

One question that I had for myself coming into Knowledge Kapamilya was, how can I apply what I have learned through this experience going forward outside of Knowledge Kapamilya? Looking back on this question, I was initially unsure how I would do this. However, I realized that this project of writing an e-book and sharing my story and experience with others is the perfect answer to this question. By creating this e-book, I hope to continue teaching those around me about Filipino American history and celebrate our culture with others. There are many opportunities for students to get involved in this discussion to explore their Filipino American cultural identity and history, whether that’s joining Knowledge Kapamilya, donating their artwork to the Burke Museum, or something else altogether. Thank you for joining me on my journey through Knowledge Kapamilya!
