5 Evaluation

E-learning Goals

For this e-learning I would like to see this e-learning decrease the number of incidences sent down to the office by having para-educators trained to handle situations in the classroom specifically when supporting students with an Individualized education plan. This training will help para-educators feel confident on how to approach supporting a student by providing tools they can utilize in the classroom. This would help with rapport between students and para-educators, because there is also a clear indicator of students preferring teachers over the support staff. This would also relieve the special education teachers to add additional responsibilities to have them train para-educators while they are focusing on helping students grow.

Assessment Techniques and Tools

Kirkpatrick Level 1: Reaction

For Level 1: There will be a survey given to participants prior to the course regarding their confidence in skills based of target objectives. The same survey will be given after the survey on a different form to see the change. In addition, there will be questions regarding why they want to take the course, what they are hoping to learn from the course, what are some challenges they are currently facing regarding supporting students.

  • I can effectively communicate using non-violent communication format
  • Analyze function of behavior (escape, attention, sensory, tangible item)
  • Evaluate which de-escalation strategy to use (space, choices, basic needs, etc.)
  • Building positive rapport with students in the classroom by finding similar interests

The scale would be 1-5

1: Strongly Disagree

5: Strongly agree

Level 2: Learning

For quizzes, passing would be 80%. Enrollment will happen during the month of August before the school year starts. The course can be repeated every 3 years, but there will be visuals and handouts that can be quick reference guides for learners.

There will be declarative knowledge at the end of each module that will assess if the learner has retained the concepts. It will be multiple choice. The learner will then receive feedback on what this might look like without the answer given to them. There will be an explanation as to why something may or may not be the correct answer to allow the learner to assess the different choices.

Level 3: Self-reflection questions will be provided where learners can answer questions with prompts given by the online instructor. In addition, there will be observation from the special education teacher to see how they are interacting with the students. In addition, the pre and post test and survey will indicate if there was growth before and after.

Level 4: There will be surveys sent out the special education teacher and students with common language regarding how staff are. Evaluators will be anonymous so that feedback will not be judged based on if it was a student of staff. In addition, observations can be reported to the principal and vice-principal to add for their evaluations. Retention of para-educators can be used to assess if this retained para-educators. In addition, student behavior can also be tracked to see if there is an overall decline of office referrals since additional staff will have training to de-escalate.

Enrollment will be tracked and attendance for Wednesday online meetings will be tracked. To see if the learner has been consistent. At the beginning, there will be a letter regarding the responsibilities of taking the course and what is expected of them. Observations will be collected using google forms. Subjective would be based on feelings of the observer. This survey could include a written portion so students and supervisors can discuss what they noticed. Objective data will be based off IEP goal progress, tracking behaviors, and quizzes since this will have quantitative data.

The data will be used for special education professional developments on how we can continue to support students and course redesign. Since this course will be a first that doesn’t involve just watching a video and answer a few questions, it would be helpful to receive feedback regarding how the course was and if this actually help staff feel more confident in helping students.
