6 Case Studies

Case Studies Matter

Case studies are powerful instructional strategy in training programs. They allow the learner to practice theory before trying it out in the real-world. This reflects back to Michael Knowles’ assumptions of adult learners in they need relevance, autonomy, and problem-centered learning.

Case Studies Used

My training program uses three different case studies  in Module 3: Investigations and Reporting, in order to help my learners practice what they are learning and test out their knowledge without high-stakes. When it comes to investigations, especially when money or product is involved, it’s important to know the strategy before implementing it.

In the scenario below, the learner reads through the situation and decides whether or not there is enough evidence to suggest Brad might be stealing. By working through the scenario and answering the follow-up question, the learner gets a chance to practice evaluating real-world behavior.
