Work Plan

Topic and Goals: I will create an overall design of an e-learning program for caregivers and parents of youth experiencing foster care. The training lessons will focus on educational barriers that impact children and youth involved in State, Federal, and Tribal foster care. I would like to develop an overall design for the training series and build out the first module, “Treehouse Mission, Programs and Eligibility.” The first module will teach learners about my organization’s mission, our various programs and eligibility requirements, and end with making a test referral to our organization.

I’m limited in my budget for this course.  My organization is paying for me to take this class with the intention that I will be able to help guide us in creating a resource training website. We received a grant to help fund this project, but it’s a limited funding source.  I will need to be very resourceful and budget conscious when I’m creating the overall outline for this course.

I’m choosing to start with this first lesson to help show my organization’s leadership what I’m envisioning and to help create buy-in into the project.  Having a limited budget will greatly reduce what I’m able to produce, but I think I’ll be successful in creating some helpful resources for our audience.

Design Approach: We surveyed caregivers and parents already and they have clearly told us that they want shorter, bite-sized training courses, resources and tip/fact sheets available to them on our website 24/7.  They want lessons that are 30- to 45-minutes in length.  They want resources that are easy to navigate and that give them the topical information they are looking for when they need it.

The course will be asynchronous and available on the Treehouse website. Learners will be able to move through the course at their own pace and save their progress in the course and return to it later.

I will be using PowerPoint Presentations, prerecorded presentations, downloadable handouts, online resources, videos, and podcasts throughout the entire training series. For the first lesson, I will mostly be using prerecorded presentations and videos with audio narration.

Proposed Elements:  For now, I believe activities are going to be limited in the first lesson. I will add more activities and interactions in some of the other courses by including case studies that will require the learner to decide how to move forward in the scenario.  I would like to add games for some of the lessons, as well.

For this project I’m focusing on building out an introductory lesson that teaches the learner about our organization and the services we provide. I don’t see a need for much interaction in this lesson. I would like to finish the lesson by having the learner complete the task of making a referral to a program. This will be the main activity they will participate in during the first lesson.
