1 E-Learning Proposal

The eLearning course, I originally proposed was called, Contingency Management in Action. This course was intended to be a micro-course with the goal to review CM Skills from our Phase I Training and give learners the opportunity to demonstrate application in real world scenario activities. Our training program deliver training to substance abuse treatment site staff and Contingency Management is a new behavioral treatment approach for most sites.

Preliminary E-Learning Design & Development Project Proposal

Part 1: Overall Project Scope
  1. Title: CM in Action
  2. What is the scope of the project (lesson, module, course, program)? One course in a sequence of asynchronized courses for our TTA (Training and Technical Assistance) in Contingency Management.
  3. What will you design, which part(s) do you intend to develop? I will develop the entire course.
Part 2: Background
  1. Problem Statement/Identified Performance Gap: The CM Program is a new behavioral treatment for most treatment sites. Staff want to get a feel for what it looks like to facilitate a contingency management clinic visit using specific CM skills they have learned in earlier courses.
  2. Project Objectives (strategic/organizational): Provide staff with real world scenarios for CM visits that will demonstrate application of CM skills learned in previous courses. Reinforce skill knowledge acquisition with best practice applications by having the learner interact in the realistic scenarios to evoke meaningful experiences.
  3. Target Audience: Substance Abuse Treatment Clinic staff appointed to facilitate the CM Program at their site.
  4. Learning Objectives (participant): At the end of this course the learner will be able to:
    1. Identify CM skills for conducting a CM visit
    2. Analyze CM Program fit for client
    3. Apply best practice application of CM skills and documentation requirements in various scenarios
  5. Outcomes Assessment (measurement of strategic and learning objectives): Knowledge Check with multiple choice questions and scenarios to practice CM skills in realistic situations.
Part 3: Design Approach

How will the course or program be structured?

  1. Format: This course will be an asynchronous eLearning course to be made available on our 3rd party LMS.
  2. Explanation of Format Choice: Clinic staff have limited time throughout their already busy day to complete a training course. They will need to be able to access the course in between various tasks making it important for chunking information with awareness to cognitive overload.
  3. Flow/Sequence of Lesson/Module/Course/Program: This course part of a required sequence of courses. The course will have elements that repeat previous learned information, real world scenarios to demonstrate application of CM skills, and tips that assist in demonstrating and applying the skills.
  4. Technologies/Approaches: I will use Articulate Storyline/Rise for this course.
  5. Acquisition of Learner Needs/Interest Information: At the end of Phase I of our CM Overview Training, learners were given a survey that included a question pertaining to what additional information would they have liked in the course. The topic of demonstrating the CM skills in visits would be helpful.
  6. Team: I will be building this course by myself. I work with a team of SME’s that I will collaborate with for reviews and additional suggestions.

Part 4: Context for Implementation

  1. Context (where, when, how): This course will be built in Articulate and can be saved and/or implemented into our existing eLearning courses for new sites in 2025.
  2. Approval/Organizational Buy-In: This course is approved by my supervisor though it may change depending on timeline demands with our funders.
  3. Time/Budget Constraints: Our contracts have been secured for 2025 that include TTA development. Again, the project may change as the timeline rolls out the beginning of 2025.
  4. Resources Needed/Available: Time, as always! Also, will need to learn scenario building skills in Articulate. I would also like to learn some gamification, if possible.
  5. Relevant Organizational Considerations: TBD
  6. Technical Support Expectations/Plan: TBD
