1 E-Learning Proposal

Project Scope

Title: Helping Your Parent Downsize with Care and Empathy

What is the scope of the project:  For this project I developed a  module with four lessons and a resource page.

What will you design? I designed three content sections covering key considerations for downsizing. An scenario-based assessment, knowledge checks, and resources for learners.

Background

Problem: Many adult children feel overwhelmed when supporting aging parents with downsizing. They often lack a structured approach, emotional readiness, and awareness of available resources. This can lead to rushed decisions, family conflict, and increased stress for all involved.

Project Objectives:

  • Provide a practical, supportive learning tool to empower families in planning ahead.
  • Reduce caregiver burnout and family conflict by improving communication and planning skills.
  • Encourage earlier, more thoughtful conversations around aging-in-place and relocation.

Target Audience: Adult children who are supporting a parent or older relative through a downsizing transition.

Learning Objectives:

LT 1: Identify key considerations when supporting a parent through the downsizing process

LT 2: Assess a current living situation to determine downsizing needs and opportunities

LT 3: Develop a personalized downsizing plan that outlines priorities, timelines, and support resources

Outcomes Assessment:

  • Completion of a 6-month written downsizing plan (downloadable worksheet)
  • Completion of embedded formative knowledge checks (multiple choice)
  • Scenario-based reflection response demonstrating application of empathy and planning
  • Learner self-assessment aligned with project checklist (clarity, pacing, support, tone)

Design Approach

Format: Self-paced asynchronous online learning module using Rise 360.

Explanation of Format Choice: Rise 360 is ideal for delivering clean, mobile-friendly content with interactive elements. The target audience includes busy adults who may prefer flexible, accessible learning formats they can complete at their own pace.

Flow/Sequence of Lesson/Module/Course/Program: The module is designed in sequential modules. Each module focuses on a specific learning target.

Technologies/Approaches:

  • Rise 360 content blocks (interactive, accordion, labeled graphic)
  • Downloadable resources (planning worksheet, team worksheet)
  • Scenario-based decision-making
  • Microlearning strategies for busy adult learners

Acquisition of Learner Needs/Interest Information: Given my target audience, I am assuming that learners who take the course are self-motivated to learn about this topic.

Team: I would be the only person working on this project.

Implementation

Context: This course will be implemented as a stand-alone course or part of a larger support resource for families navigating elder transitions. It will be available online using the Rise share link, starting June 2025. Through a combination of multimedia content, interactive activities and downloadable resources.

Approval/Organizational Buy-In: This module is being developed as part of an instructional design practicum.

Time/Budget Constraints: Budget: No external budget, tools like Rise 360 is available

Resources Needed/Available:

  • Rise 360 authoring tool. (available)
  • Access to stock photos. (free sources or Canva)
  • Google Docs for worksheets.
  • Feedback from peers, mentor, or potential users. (informal)

Relevant Organizational Considerations: I need to ensure the module is accessible, clearly structured, and emotionally sensitive to the topic of elder transitions. Since the course may be shared with adult learners from diverse backgrounds, it must use plain, respectful language and be easy to navigate across devices. If the project is later shared with a professional organization, I’ll need to consider branding, tone, and legal disclaimers to align with organizational values.

Technical Support Expectations/Plan: Since the course is being built and tested on Rise 360, minimal technical support is expected.
