About the Author
Alyssa Johnston completed the E-learning Instructional Design certificate at the University of Washington in June 2024.
Alyssa Johnston has had the pleasure of working for the largest credit union in Washington state for the past 13 years. During this time, Alyssa has developed a passion for meeting people where they are and helping them bring their unique strengths to the surface. Alyssa’s love for learning and development extends beyond her professional life—she’s discovered that the key to effectively developing others is also rooted in our own self-development.
Professionally, Alyssa currently serves as a Learning and Development Specialist, where her team oversees all retail new hire training. Alyssa has designed and implemented various new hire eLearning programs to ensure employees are well-prepared and supported from day one. Prior to this role, Alyssa was in the trenches working on the teller line, experiencing intense fraud situations and navigating the challenges of working during the start and peak of COVID-19. These experiences helped Alyssa build resilience and empathy, allowing her to relate to new hires and support them through their journey. Any mistake a new hire has made, Alyssa has most likely made too, which helps her welcome them to such a large organization and make them feel as supported as possible, no matter where they are in their career.
On a personal note, Alyssa’s young sons keep her on her toes and constantly remind her of the joy and curiosity that comes with learning. They inspire Alyssa every day, and she’s excited to see where this journey of growth and discovery takes her next.
