Lessons Learned

Rich discussion around race, privilege, and power dynamics is necessary to advance our collective understanding from good, to groundbreaking, to liberating. But the road toward liberation is often a messy one. Deliberately weaving into our lives the values of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) is a long and complicated journey. During the course of a year-long exploration, many questions arose, such as:

  • How does structural racism live on an online platform?
  • What does justice in our relationships with our students look like?
  • How do we set up environments that give space to the non-dominant narratives and pedagogical approaches to caregiving and learning?
  • In what ways can we disrupt systems of power and inequity at play in our courses in higher education?
  • How do we create more democratic grading practices and policies?
