DEI Audit Process
Step 7: Determine Course Updates
Purpose
To create and prioritize a list of specific actions items you will do to update your materials based upon the findings of the audit debrief.
Process
Gather as a team to decide what specific updates you will make to your materials (action items) and when you will make them. One way to do this is by labeling each action item based upon a ranking of the level of impact and effort as it relates to your team.
Impact | Effort | ||
High | Action items that will significantly improve the materials and have a profound effect on the users’ learning experience. Your team may view them as essential to making a meaningful DEI update. | High | Action items that require a significant amount of time and/or resources to accomplish on behalf of individuals and/or the team. |
Medium | Action items that will improve the materials and have a major effect on the users’ learning experience. | Medium | Action items that require a moderate amount of time and/or resources to accomplish on behalf of individuals and/or the team. |
Low | Action items that will improve the materials and have a minor effect on the users’ learning experience. | Low | Action items that require relatively little time and/or resources to accomplish on behalf of individuals and/or the team. |
*Note: The meaning of words like “significant” and “moderate” will vary across contexts. It may be worthwhile for your team to define such terms in a way that makes sense to you. For instance, how many hours is a “significant” amount of time?
Once your team has determined the impact and effort of each proposed update or revision, you can use this information to inform the action plan for how to proceed. For example, items that are categorized as high impact and low effort may be a good place to start since the team can accomplish them more quickly while still making a significant improvement to the materials. Items that are categorized as high impact and high effort may be further down the list given the time and resources required to accomplish them.
