The learning environment of an online course is instrumental to setting the stage for learning. Learners first experiences in the learning environment of the course must provide essential information and signal expectations.

Standard C1: Goals and Objectives

Description

The course goals and objectives are clearly stated in a prominent location of the course, preferably Course Introduction.

Standard C2: Diversity and inclusion

Description

The course specifically addresses diversity and barriers to inclusion. Potential areas include: course description or a DEI-related course outcome.

Course objectives refer to successful completion, and each objective begins with a verb: enhance, reflect, self-reflect, engage, execute.

Standard C3: Accessibility

Description

Course specifically addresses accessibility considerations either within the course resources or pointing to specific institutional resources.

Description

Course identifies a variety of learning activities and criteria for successful completion, usually found on Course Organization or syllabus handout.
