Overview
Becoming a Multimedia Annotator
Expectations
Learning how to annotate and tag assets is complicated. This handbook is a great tool to support your work. Training to become an annotator happens in a variety of ways:
- In-person or virtual training
- Practice videos
- Using the handbook
Reviewing Our Work for Accuracy
Part of the training process includes practicing the annotation process. The Media Liaison will review and share feedback for further reflection. This is an important step to ensureing accuracy and alignment. Be sure to schedule regular reviews as part of the initial training cycle. The annotation team will determine how often to review, when and how to share feedback, and when this part of the training cycle is complete.
When annotating as part of the training process, follow the directions for the type of asset being worked with. Then, change Log Status to “logged” in the metadata so the reviewer can find your work. Once training is complete, you will change log status to “coded” since there will not be an additional quality check.
Periodic review will continue beyond the initial training phase as part of our quality control process.
Sharing Your Feedback
We update the handbook regularly to reflect current practice and feedback. Use the Annotation and Media Liaison workgroup in Teams to share feedback or contact the project manager.
Communcation Tools: Asana and Teams
We use Teams to communicate about annotation. Your supervisor will share access to the Annotation and Media Liaison Workgroup as part of your onboarding.
The project manager will assign tasks in the workgroup. This is also a space to share updates and team with other annotators.
